The Cleveland Guardians don’t have a ton of holes to fill on their roster since the entire lineup is under contract for at least the 2025 season, with the only key free agents on the roster being from the starting rotation, where Shane Bieber, Alex Cobb, and Carlos Carrasco are all hitting the open market.
However, just because most of the roster is locked in, that doesn’t mean there aren’t still question marks, and one analyst recently noted the biggest question facing this team in the offseason.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report wrote an article highlighting the offseason shopping lists of each team and pointed out that the top three items on Cleveland’s list are three starting pitchers, and the team’s biggest question is simply, “Will Cleveland revamp its starting rotation? And how?”
The team’s chances of re-signing Carrasco and Cobb are unlikely, but bringing Bieber back after missing nearly the entire 2024 season would be a huge boost to the rotation if he is healthy.
There is a familiarity there that the Guardians wouldn’t have with any other free agent, and as long as Bieber is recovered, he can be just as good as any other option Cleveland opts to bring in.
The team still has a number of reliable options in-house for the rotation, as Gavin Williams, Triston McKenzie, Joey Cantillo, and Logan Allen are all still under contract, but bringing in at least one strong option would go a long way toward taking some pressure off this overworked bullpen that looked to run out of gas in the ALCS.
