The Cleveland Guardians took the loss in game 1 of the American League Championship Series to the New York Yankees on Monday.
Both teams had 6 hits in the game, but the Yankees were able to take advantage of a wild outing by Guardians’ reliever Joey Cantillo who threw 2 wild pitches resulting in runs.
Although the Guardians lost the game, their all-star leadoff hitter broke a franchise postseason record in the process.
According to Cleveland Guardians on ‘X,’ Steven Kwan now has a franchise record 11-game hit streak in the postseason dating back to 2023.

Kwan recorded an RBI single in the 8th inning of game 1 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.
The old-school leadoff hitter has been consistent all postseason for the Guardians as he ended the series against the Tigers with 3 hits per game in the last 3 games of the series.
In 6 games played thus far in the playoffs, Kwan has 12 hits in 25 at-bats with 6 runs scored, 1 run batted in, 1 stolen base, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
The Guardians will need Kwan to start game 2 off strong as he will get the first at-bat against postseason monster Gerrit Cole on Tuesday.
Cole’s postseason stats include 19 games started with a record of 11 wins and 6 losses and a 2.94 earned run average with 142 strikeouts in 116.1 innings pitched.
The all-important game 2 will decide if the Guardians go back home to Cleveland in a tied series or down 2-0.
The Guardians are seeking their first World Series appearance since they lost to the Chicago Cubs in 7 games in 2016.
