The Cleveland Guardians lost the pivotal Game 3 of the American League Division Series in Comerica Park against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.
Just like it happened on Monday’s Game 2, they were blanked in the third contest, both ending with a 3-0 final score.
Cleveland’s offense hasn’t scored in the last 20 innings.
Maybe the pressure of knowing that the next loss will eliminate them will bring some life to the hapless lineup.
The two squads will take the field on Thursday, starting at 6:08 pm ET.
The Tigers will be playing for the right to advance to the AL Championship Series.
The Guardians, meanwhile, will just try to survive another day and take the series to Cleveland for a winner-takes-all game this weekend.
Unfortunately, Cleveland hasn’t done so well in recent years when their backs are against the wall and they are facing elimination.
“The last time Cleveland’s baseball team won a playoff game while facing elimination? Game 6 of the 1997 World Series, a mere 9,847 days ago. The Guardians face elimination Thursday,” team insider Zack Meisel posted on X.

The last time the Guards won while facing elimination was almost 10,000 days ago.
If it sounds like a lot, it’s because it is: we are talking about 27 years, and they ended up losing that series anyway, too.
In order to live another day and not throw away a brilliant, impressive regular season, Cleveland needs to win on Thursday.
It’s much easier said than done because the Tigers’ pitching staff is better than people imagine, but the time, for Cleveland, is now.
