The origins of MLB take us back to the late 1800s, almost 150 years ago.
Over that timeframe, only one player has been able to finish with at least 40 doubles, 40 home runs, and 40 stolen bases in the same season.
No, it’s not Shohei Ohtani, even though he has a chance to join the club this weekend.
It’s not Mickey Mantle, Barry Bonds, Henry Aaron, Willie Mays, Alex Rodriguez or Jose Canseco.
It’s Alfonso Soriano, back in 2006 with the Washington Nationals.
Cleveland Guardians unsung star Jose Ramirez has a chance to join Soriano if he has a big weekend to close out his season, as Bally Sports Cleveland explains.
“Did you know, bro!? José Ramírez needs two doubles and two home runs this weekend to become just the second player in MLB history with 40+ 2B, 40+ HR, and 40+ SB in a single season,” they posted on X.

J-Ram might be having one of the best non-MVP seasons ever since the award will likely go to Aaron Judge or Bobby Witt Jr.
He has 38 home runs, 38 doubles, and 40 stolen bases.
As we stated above, Ohtani also has a chance to join the club as he has 37 doubles while completing the other two items on the checklist.
Ramirez needs just a couple of doubles and long balls because the steals are already there.
It’s easy to say it and extremely difficult to achieve over three games, though.
Is it hard? Yes.
Is it improbable? Perhaps.
But it is plausible, and as long as that’s the case, the entire city of Cleveland will be rooting for its hero.
