The Cleveland Guardians beat the Cincinnati Reds again on Wednesday, with a 5-2 final score that doesn’t really illustrates how close the game was.
In fact, it was Jose Ramirez’s 38th home run of the season the one that broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Guardians a 5-2 lead in the eighth inning.
Ramirez is trying to join the exclusive 40-40 club and is just two home runs shy of his goal.
To secure the victory, the Guardians relied on star closer Emmanuel Clase.
The All-Star stopper earned his 47th save of the year, one that helped him enter the franchise history books… again.
“La Kabra is top dawg. Cy Young front-runner, Emmanuel Clase, has set our franchise record for most saves in a season,” the Guards announced via X.

In case you don’t remember, Clase became the Guardians all-time leader in saves this year, surpassing the great Cody Allen a few weeks ago.
Now, he just posted the single-season record for most saves in franchise history with 47.
With the save, he also tied St. Louis Cardinals’ Ryan Helsley for the league lead.
Clase has been on a tier of his own when it comes to closers.
Maybe he is not the ‘Cy Young frontrunner’ like the team states, especially now with Tarik Skubal close to wrapping up a Triple Crown, but what he is doing is very impressive.
Clase boasts a mind-blowing 0.61 ERA in 73.1 frames.
Cleveland’s bullpen is probably one of the best units in the last 20-25 years, and Clase is by far the best pitcher of the bunch.
He isn’t even 27 years old and already belongs in the Guardians Hall of Fame when he retires.
