Cleveland Guardians infielder Jose Ramirez is enjoying one of the finest seasons of his career.
His excellent play has been the foundation of the Guardians offense this year, as he is hitting a robust .274/.332/.517 with 35 doubles, 36 home runs, and a .849 OPS.
You would think it’s impossible for a player with so much slugging ability to be so quick and efficient on the basepaths, but Ramirez is on another level.
On Friday, he stole his 40th base of the year, reaching the milestone for the first time in his brilliant career.
He was asked how he felt after reaching the number, and his answer might surprise you.
“How does José Ramírez feel about stealing his 40th base? “It feels good but it obviously is gonna feel better if I’m able to hit four more homers for the 40/40,” Guardians insider Mandy Bell posted on X.

J-Ram recently turned 32 years old.
He isn’t supposed to post a career-high in stolen bases at 32, but again, he is really special.
He is showing the world that limitations exist only in the mind, and that a good routine and work ethic can put you in a position to succeed and prolong a player’s career.
He is still considered to be in his prime, but 40 stolen bases are most commonly associated with players in their twenties.
Not Ramirez, though.
Additionally, he is shooting for his first 40-homer campaign.
His career-high came in 2018 when he hit 39.
Can he join the exclusive 40-40 club? He still has a few games left and Cleveland has things left to play for.
The motivation should be there.
