The Cleveland Guardians won on Wednesday afternoon.
It wasn’t your average win, though.
After dropping the first three of a crucial four-game set and relinquishing sole possession of first place and the season tiebreaker all to the Royals, the Guardians beat them 7-5 on Wednesday and regained the top spot.
Additionally, it was a historic win for elite closer Emmanuel Clase.
The righty has been chasing history the entire year.
After getting his 39th save of the season and 149th of his career with Cleveland’s uniform, he can now say that no one in Guardians history has achieved more with the team.
“Emmanuel Clase has tied Cody Allen for the most saves in Cleveland history. 149: Emmanuel Clase, Cody Allen 139: Bob Wickman 129: Doug Jones 124: Chris Perez 104: José Mesa Clase’s ERA this season is 0.58,” Zack Meisel, who covers the team for The Athletic, posted on X.

Clase allowed a hit and struck out one in the scoreless ninth to enter the Guardians’ books.
He is now tied with one of the finest relievers of the 2010s, Cody Allen, at the top.
Barring a shocking and unexpected injury, Clase will take sole possession of the franchise leaderboard this week or not long after that.
He is a special pitcher, boasting an unreal 0.58 ERA in 62.1 frames this year.
The Guards are lucky to have him, and he really makes games shorter for the opposition.
Clase is as close of an automatic clean inning as it gets in MLB, and he should legitimately be in the race for the AL Cy Young.
