The Cleveland Guardians saw their five-game winning streak snapped on Friday night, as they lost the series opener against the tough Milwaukee Brewers 5-3.
The Guards went down in a 5-0 hole by the fourth inning, mainly because their starting pitcher, Gavin Williams, wasn’t on his best night.
Williams fell to 2-5 on the season after allowing five runs (all earned) in just four innings of work, conceding six hits and two walks while striking six Brewers.
Williams himself conceded that it just wasn’t his best game.
“I just didn’t make my pitches when I should have.” Gavin Williams says he needs to stay focused, and was frustrated at points throughout his outing tonight,” Bally Sports Cleveland tweeted.

Williams’ primary regret was probably the way he pitched to Brewers slugger Willy Adames in the first inning.
He homered off Williams with two men on base, propelling his team to a comfy 3-0 lead.
On the other hand, Cleveland had to deal with an old friend on the other side now acting as their foe: Aaron Civale, who was a Guardian as recently as a year ago, tossed six shutout frames for the Brewers.
Civale surrendered just four hits and walked one Guardians’ hitter, striking out four as he continues to settle in nicely in the Brewers rotation.
Will Brennan continued his hot hitting by going 3-for-4 on the night, while Jose Ramirez and David Fry went yard for Cleveland.
It wasn’t enough against a really difficult opponent, as the team as a whole will need to do more in order to level the series on Saturday.
