The Cleveland Guardians had been a bit inconsistent over the last few games.
They took the field on Thursday having won two straight, but before that, they had lost seven of their last nine.
They tried to make it three consecutive wins, but the Detroit Tigers got in the way and blanked Cleveland 3-0, earning a series tie.

You could very well say that Guardians starter Gavin Williams made a single mistake, but it was a costly one: he surrendered a three-run home run to Tigers shortstop Javier Baez in the second inning, and that was all they needed to defeat Cleveland.
The ice-cold Guardians offense was unable to inflict damage off the Tigers’ bullpen, as Tyler Holton, Easton Lucas, Alex Faedo, Jason Foley, Andrew Chafin, and Shelby Miller combined to shut out Cleveland’s lineup allowing just four hits in the process.
Cleveland could only work one walk, and struck out a whopping ten times.
The situation is starting to become worrisome for the Guards: in their last six games, they have scored the grand total of 10 runs, and five of those came in one contest.
For most of the first half, the Guards’ batting order was not only adequate but well above average.
They have been slumping for a while now, though, and one can’t help but wonder if the organization will look for upgrades before the July 30 trade deadline.
The Guardians farm system boasts many quality prospects that might interest sellers, and they need to strike multiple deals to make sure they are as competitive as the league’s elite.
