Before taking the field on Friday, the Cleveland Guardians own the best record in the American League.
That’s right: it’s the same league in which forces such as the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins, Houston Astros and the reigning champs Texas Rangers play.
The Guards have the slightest of leads in the AL standings, since they are 57-35 in comparison to Baltimore’s 57-36.
This might change after Friday’s games, but that wouldn’t erase what the Guardians have accomplished so far: the respect and admiration from fans all over the circuit.
Cleveland and Baltimore have been so close that not even the numbers can split them up.
“The Cleveland Guardians have 57 wins so far this year and have outscored their opponents by a total of 87 runs. The Baltimore Orioles have 57 wins so far this year and have outscored their opponents by a total of 87 runs,” Codify Baseball tweeted.

We are talking about a team with a unique group of prospects that all panned out: Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Heston Kjerstad, Colton Cowser, Grayson Rodriguez, and many more.
Most of them are early-round picks, and the Guardians have been competing toe to toe with them to this day.
The season is long and the Guardians definitely need reinforcements to secure their place atop the AL Central and for the postseason, but they have shown incredible organizational skills this year: impeccable player develpment, solid scouting, and a knack for getting the most out of their available resources.
They are a special team but need to start accumulating some wins, because the Twins are lurking.
