The Cleveland Guardians just can’t lose.
They went to Baltimore and beat the second-best team in the American League, the Orioles, with a 3-2 score to secure their sixth straight W.
The Guards now boast an elite 50-26 record in 2024: if you watched the 2023 team continually struggling to consistently score runs, you will find this refreshing and surprising to say the least.
The 2024 campaign also marks one of the quickest times the team has reached 50 wins, in terms of games played.
Guardians insider Zack Meisel explains more, and also provides some optimism towards the future given some of the past outcomes.
“Quickest Cleveland has gotten to 50 wins in a season: 1995: 71 games (reached World Series); 1954: 72 games (reached World Series); 1920: 75 games (won World Series); 1999: 75 games (reached playoffs); 2024: 76 games (???)” he tweeted.

Basically, every time the Guards reached 50 wins in 75 games or fewer, they at least made the postseason and often made it all the way to the Fall Classic.
They have arrived at the 50-win threshold in 76 games this time: will it be enough to yield another World Series appearance?
Only time will tell, and there is a long way to go.
One thing seems clear: if the Guardians don’t at least make it to the postseason, it will be a disaster of sorts.
They currently have an eight-game cushion in the AL Central, ahead of the Minnesota Twins, and the third Wild Card team is 8.5 games behind.
They should at least make it into October.
What happens next will largely depend on how good a deadline they have: Cleveland needs pitching reinforcements for the rotation before it all crumbles.
For now, though, they can afford to wait for a deal of their liking.
