If you are an MLB manager reading this and are facing the Cleveland Guardians, make sure you don’t get to the late innings and have David Fry face one of your lefty relievers.
Chances are you are going to have a really bad time, as will your reliever.
Fry, who has been one of the Guards’ revelations this year, is actually leading the league in OPS against southpaw relievers.
These are often found late in games, which has also become an instance in which Fry usually inflicts damage.
Inside Edge posted just how good Fry has been against lefty relievers this season.
“David Fry has an OPS of 1.967 (37 PA’s) against left-handed relievers this season, best in MLB,” they tweeted.

Of course, 37 plate appearances is not exactly the biggest sample, but it’s also not insignificant.
To say Fry has been the most pleasant surprise of the Guardians’ 2024 campaign would be an understatement.
Not only is he extremely productive at the plate, but he is also very versatile and can cover a wide array of positions, including catcher, both infield corners, and left field.
As a hitter, what he has done is nothing short of amazing.
In 146 plate appearances, he has slashed .336/.473/.602 with eight home runs, 27 RBI, and a 1.074 OPS.
He is the only Guardians player with semi-regular playing time whose OPS is 1.000 or higher.
His combination of offensive excellence and defensive versatility put him right there with Jose Ramirez, Emmanuel Clase, and Josh Naylor among the most valuable Guardians of 2024.
We will have a better idea of who he is as a hitter when the season ends and the sample available is much larger, but he has contributed a lot to Cleveland’s early success.
