The Cleveland Guardians are currently fighting tooth and nail with a myriad of teams to make the postseason in the crowded American League Wild Card picture. Their 74-73 record is good enough to give them the third spot at the moment, but they have another potential way to make it into October.
The Guardians, winners of two straight division titles, are just a game and a half behind the AL Central lead, held by the Chicago White Sox, after the Pale Hose suffered a surprising sweep at home at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates from Tuesday to Thursday.

The Guardians sit 1.5 games out of first place in the AL Central Division with 15 games to play. Buckle up! Everything on the table,” Cleveland’s sports anchor Nick Camino posted.

As Camino says, everything is now on the table for the Guardians. They could easily make the playoffs via the Wild Card, outlast Chicago to take its third straight division title, or miss the party altogether. All three outcomes are in play for the talented but inconsistent Guardians.
Chicago will now travel to St. Louis to play the Cardinals this weekend, while Cleveland will go to Target Field to face the Minnesota Twins. After that, the most important series of the season will take place between the two AL Central contenders.
That’s right, the Guardians will face the White Sox at Progressive Field starting on Monday. Those three games will probably decide who wins the division and who gets relegated to the Wild Card race in the American League, so it’s a huge matchup for both squads.
The Guardians’ rotation hasn’t been performing well in recent games, aside from Parker Messick and Gavin Williams, of course. The offense appears to be rounding into form, though, and the bullpen is as strong as ever as the team prepares for the 15 games left in the calendar. That’s 15 do-or-die battles they will have to face.
They will approach them with the hope of becoming one of the division winners in the American League, aided by the White Sox’s recent sweep.
