Emmanuel Clase has been the most dominant closer in baseball this season and is continuing to pile up the accolades since he took over as the Cleveland Guardians’ full-time closer before the 2021 season.
After his stellar start to the 2024 campaign, Clase has found himself alone atop a very impressive list amongst his peers.
Cleveland Stats shared a post on Twitter that showed where Clase stands amongst his peers since the start of the 2022 season, and Clase’s 103 saves put him well ahead of anyone else in the league, as nobody else even has more than 80 in that span.
Clase is the only MLB pitcher with over 80 saves since the start of the 2022 season:
Emmanuel Clase – 103
Kenley Jansen – 79
Jordan Romano – 79
Josh Hader – 76
Camilo Doval – 75
David Bednar – 69
Ryan Pressly – 64
Raisel Iglesias – 62
Clay Holmes – 59pic.twitter.com/CKXluSPmMv— Cleveland Stats (@CLE_STATS) May 27, 2024
Kenley Jansen and Jordan Romano are tied for second with 79 saves, a hefty 24 behind Clase.
Clase is having much more success than he did last season where he had a 3.22 ERA with 12 blown saves and nine losses, and his current 2024 ERA is down to a minuscule 0.33 with a historic 0.62 WHIP.
Clase just turned 26 and already has 128 career saves which puts him in reach of the top 100 on the all-time list before the end of the season.
He closed out last year’s All-Star Game, and at this rate, he most certainly will be doing so again.
Clase couldn’t be doing this without the bridge leading up to him performing so well, as Hunter Gaddis, Nick Sandlin, Cade Smith, and Tim Herrin have all been absolutely dominant thus far.
Cleveland is off to one of the best starts in baseball, and it couldn’t be doing it without its anchor at the back end of the bullpen.
