One consistent trend you often find with great teams in MLB is they will always find a way to get random and unexpected contributions from unlikely sources, which is a testament to a strong coaching staff and a strong clubhouse culture.
The Cleveland Guardians are half a game back of the New York Yankees for the best record in the American League at 32-17, and they are getting surprisingly dominant contributions from David Fry, who now leads all of MLB with one elite stat.
Inside Edge shared a stat on Twitter that Fry now sports an .813 slugging percentage against left-handed pitching so far this season, which leads the league and has provided the Guardians with the perfect complement to star left-handed hitting first baseman Josh Naylor.

Fry has a .406 average against lefties and a 1.404 OPS so far, although he has crushed righties so far as well to the tune of a .292 average and an .813 OPS.
It’s a small sample size of just 32 at-bats, but Fry has mashed lefties at a historic pace so far and made himself a vital member of this ballclub.
Fry made his MLB debut last season with Cleveland and hit four home runs while driving in 15 runs over 57 games, mostly serving as a pinch-hitter and occasional spot starter.
He has eclipsed last season’s numbers already in just over half as many games, as he is starting to get more at-bats due to hitting so well it is forcing management’s hand.
We’ll see how long Fry can ride this out and whether or not it’s just a flash in the pan.
