Chase DeLauter did not need a long adjustment period after missing two weeks with a fractured rib cage. The 24-year-old outfielder has been one of the hottest hitters in the American League since returning to the Cleveland lineup on June 28, and Wednesday’s performance against Texas only added to what has become one of the more exciting stretches of his young career. DeLauter went 3-5 with a run, a double, an RBI and a stolen base, extending a hitting streak that now stands at 10 consecutive games and giving the Guardians exactly the offensive punch they were missing during his absence.
“Cleveland Guardians 24 year old OF Chase DeLauter collected three hits today going 3-5 with a run, double, RBI and stolen base, including this RBI base hit in the 7th inning at 110.4 mph off the bat as he extends his hitting streak to 10 games. Since returning from IL: 8-18 3R 3 doubles 4RBI 1SB .444 AVG,” Guardians Prospective wrote.

DeLauter is hitting .444 across his first four games back, with three doubles, four RBIs and an OPS approaching 1.400 during that stretch.
DeLauter has now appeared in 70 games this season, slashing .275 with seven home runs and 38 RBIs, numbers that rank among the better totals for any rookie outfielder in the American League. His ability to produce at this level immediately after a rib injury that would have sidelined some players for considerably longer reflects both his physical gifts and the competitive mentality that teammates have pointed to throughout this stretch. Manager Stephen Vogt noted earlier this week that DeLauter looked exactly like himself from his very first at-bat back, a level of poise that the coaching staff has consistently praised.
With the Guardians now turning their attention to a four-game series against Chicago beginning Thursday, having DeLauter back and producing at this level could not be more timely. Cleveland trails the White Sox by one game in the AL Central, and the outfielder’s return gives this lineup a different dimension at the top of the order that it simply did not have during the 15 games he missed.
