The Cleveland Guardians started their week with a narrow 2-1 loss in Milwaukee against the first-place Brewers on Tuesday. Slade Cecconi delivered another excellent start and put his team in a position to win, but the offense just couldn’t get anything going all night.
Playing without the injured Jose Ramirez, Angel Martinez, and Chase DeLauter, the Guardians could only muster four hits all night. The offense is definitely decimated, and it showed.
The Guardians are now 39-34 on the season, but they remain tied at the top spot of the AL Central because the Chicago White Sox also lost to the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.

Cecconi pitched 5.2 strong innings in which he allowed just one run, which came on a solo homer by Brice Turang in the fourth inning. He allowed three hits and walked two, striking out four and lowering his ERA to 4.60.
The right-hander struggled badly to begin the season, but now that he has ditched his sweeper and refined his cutter, the results are starting to come. Unfortunately, it couldn’t lead to a win on Tuesday, but he got a no-decision.
That Turang homer, his 11th of the season, was the first run in this low-scoring affair. Cleveland would tie the game in the top of the seventh, though.
With one out, Stuart Fairchild drew a walk and advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Steven Kwan struck out to give away the second out, but Gabriel Arias came through with a game-tying single before Austin Hedges grounded out to end the inning.
Hunter Gaddis entered the game at the bottom of the seventh, and Garrett Mitchell immediately greeted him with a go-ahead home run that represented the winning run for Milwaukee.
The Guardians had the tying run at third base at the top of the eighth, but Kyle Manzardo struck out to end the frame. Then, in the ninth, the game ended with a controversial swing decision in Arias’ at-bat when the count was 3-2 without the home plate umpire even checking with the first base official.
The Guardians and the Brewers will do it again on Wednesday at 7:40 pm ET, with Gavin Williams facing Brandon Sproat.
