Nolan Jones has not been part of the Cleveland Guardians conversation for most of the 2026 season. That might need to change.
The 28 year old outfielder was sent outright to Triple-A Columbus on March 20th after a difficult 2025 campaign in Cleveland left the organization with decisions to make about their roster heading into the new year. Jones accepted the assignment, went back to work, and has been doing something quietly remarkable in Columbus over the last several weeks.
“Cleveland Guardians OF Nolan Jones extended his on-base streak to 20 straight games with a triple to lead off the 7th inning tonight for Columbus 110.1 mph off the bat in the team’s win over Toledo,” Guardians Prospective wrote.

The Nolan Jones story is one of the more complicated ones in the Guardians organization over the last several years. Cleveland drafted him in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Holy Ghost Prep High School in Philadelphia, developing him patiently through the minor leagues before he made his debut in 2022. The raw tools were always evident. The left-handed power, the ability to work a count, the athleticism at 6’4 and 195 pounds. Getting those tools to show up consistently at the major league level proved to be the challenge.
His best season came in Colorado in 2023, where he slashed .297 with a .389 on base percentage and a .931 OPS across 106 games for the Rockies, earning a fourth-place finish in National League Rookie of the Year voting. The Coors Field factor was real, but a 140 OPS+ in that environment still reflects genuine offensive ability. The Rockies then traded him back to Cleveland in 2025 in exchange for Tyler Freeman, and the 2025 season in Cleveland produced a .211 average, a .296 on base percentage, and a .600 OPS across 136 games. The numbers were not what anyone had hoped for and the outright assignment to Columbus this spring was the natural result.
What is happening in Columbus right now deserves attention in the context of the Angel Martinez left foot injury and the potential need for outfield depth.
The Guardians have CJ Kayfus, George Valera, and Kahlil Watson as the names most prominently mentioned in outfield depth conversations right now. But Jones has been doing this for 20 straight games and carries a track record of big league production that none of those three can match.
He has been forgotten by most of Cleveland. The bat is making sure that does not last much longer.
