The Cleveland Guardians began Sunday with a pair of roster moves, placing RHP Shawn Armstrong on the 15-day injured list and recalling RHP Colin Holderman from Triple-A Columbus.

Armstrong’s placement on the injured list is due to a right groin strain. The 35-year-old veteran had appeared in 12 games out of the Cleveland bullpen this season, posting a 4.22 ERA across 10.2 innings with 13 strikeouts and a 1.406 WHIP. Armstrong was signed by the Guardians on December 21, 2025, on a one-year, $5.5 million deal with a mutual option for 2027.
Stepping into his roster spot is Colin Holderman, who the Guardians recalled from the Columbus Clippers on Sunday. Holderman, 30, is a 6-6, 230-pound right-hander. He was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the 9th round of the 2016 MLB Draft out of Heartland Community College in Normal, Illinois, and also attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Holderman signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with Cleveland on December 11, 2025, after the Pittsburgh Pirates designated him for assignment and he elected free agency. He spent parts of four seasons in Pittsburgh, going a combined 8-11 with a 4.16 ERA across 163 career appearances covering 164.1 innings.
His 2026 season got off to a rocky start before being optioned to Columbus on March 30th. In 2 appearances at the major league level this season, he posted a 6.00 ERA across 3 innings. His time at Columbus appears to have been a reset opportunity, and the Guardians clearly believe he is ready to contribute again after being in Triple-A.
For Armstrong, the hope will be that the 15-day IL stint is enough time to get the groin issue sorted out and return to the roster later in May. The Guardians will need every reliable arm they can muster as the season progresses and the AL Central race tightens.
