The Cleveland Guardians could not have scripted a better Opening Day, and Chase DeLauter is still soaking it all in.
After delivering a historic performance in his MLB debut, DeLauter opened up about what the moment meant to him and how special it felt to contribute right away.
“It was incredible. Being able to compete with the guys, start the season off fresh and be able to play real winning baseball, it’s unmatched,” DeLauter said.

In the Guardians’ 6-4 win over the Seattle Mariners, DeLauter went 3-5 with two home runs, becoming just the seventh player in MLB history to hit two home runs in his first regular-season game. He also became one of the few players ever to homer in his first career plate appearance on Opening Day.
It was a performance that instantly turned heads across the league. But inside the clubhouse, it was just as much about the energy and camaraderie that came with it.
Teammates rallied around DeLauter throughout the night, and moments after the game, the excitement was still evident. The Guardians have built their identity on player development and chemistry, and this was a clear example of both coming together in a big moment.
For a team that has been searching for more impact offense, DeLauter’s breakout debut could be a sign of what is ahead. Still, the rookie is keeping things in perspective. It was one game. One night.
But it was also a powerful introduction to what he can bring to this lineup.
And if his words are any indication, he is far more focused on helping the Guardians win than anything else.
That is exactly the kind of approach that can turn a great debut into a great season.
