The Cleveland Guardians entered the 2026 season with questions surrounding their offense, but early signs from spring training suggest there may be reasons for optimism.
After a difficult 2025 season at the plate, the Guardians are looking for improvement from both new additions and returning players. Early performances in camp have started to paint a more encouraging picture of what this lineup could become.
According to insider Tim Stebbins, several factors are contributing to a more positive outlook for Cleveland’s offense heading into the new season.
“The offense’s outlook. The presence of Rhys Hoskins will add a professional at-bat to the middle of the Guardians’ order, and one from the right side in a left-handed-heavy position player group,” Stebbins wrote.
Cleveland has leaned heavily on left-handed hitters in recent years, and adding a proven right-handed bat like Hoskins gives the team more flexibility in key situations.
Stebbins also pointed to the strong spring from one of the organization’s top young hitters.
“Chase DeLauter has been steadily durable this spring and stellar at the plate,” Stebbins wrote.
Durability has been a major storyline for DeLauter early in his career, so his ability to stay on the field and produce consistently is an encouraging development. If he can carry that momentum into the regular season, he could quickly become a key piece of Cleveland’s lineup.
In addition to DeLauter, the Guardians are counting on internal growth from several young players.
“Guys such as Brayan Rocchio and Angel Martínez have flashed ahead of a season in which Cleveland will need them and other returnees to take a step forward offensively after a tough 2025 season,” Stebbins added.
That internal development may ultimately determine how far the Guardians can go in 2026.
If players like Rocchio and Martínez can take meaningful steps forward, it would provide a much-needed boost to the lineup.
The Guardians have built their roster around strong pitching and player development, but for the team to take the next step, the offense must improve.
