The Cleveland Guardians have built one of the most respected farm systems in baseball over the past several years, and the organization is once again counting on young talent to play an important role in its future. One of the prospects generating attention this spring is infielder Angel Genao. The young switch hitter has steadily climbed the prospect rankings and is now viewed as a player who could make an impact in Cleveland sooner rather than later.
Genao is currently ranked as the No. 66 prospect in baseball and continues to gain recognition from scouts around the league. If his development continues on the current path, many evaluators believe he could earn his first opportunity in the major leagues at some point during the 2026 season.
According to a recent report from Cleveland.com, Genao is already drawing attention for the way he carries himself on the field and the confidence he displays during camp.
“Infield prospect Angel Genao looks to make a splash in the near future,” Carter wrote. “Genao – who is ranked as the No. 66 prospect in baseball – is predicted to receive a call-up during this season. Genao is seen by scouts as a guy who can play multiple positions in the infield to go along with his elite contact ability.”
Genao’s development over the past two seasons has played a major role in his rising profile. In 2024 he split time between Low A Lynchburg and High A Lake County, where he delivered an impressive offensive performance. Across 110 games that season, he hit .330 while collecting 38 doubles and stealing 25 bases.
The 21-year-old then spent the 2025 season with Double A Akron, continuing his progression through the organization’s system.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt recently spoke about seeing Genao up close for the first time and came away impressed with what the young infielder brings to the field.
“It’s my first time really getting to watch him play,” Vogt said. “I’ll tell you right now, he can play some shortstop. He’s always smiling and exudes confidence. He knows he belongs and that’s exciting for a young player.”

That belief in himself can be an important trait for a player making the jump through the minor leagues. The Guardians have long prioritized players who combine skill with confidence and adaptability.
If Genao continues developing at his current pace, he could soon join the growing list of homegrown players contributing to Cleveland’s roster. For now, the young infielder appears focused on continuing his development while showing that he may be ready when the opportunity arrives.
