The Cleveland Guardians have a lot of pressure on them after winning the AL Central the past two years, but the front office hasn’t been aggressive at all this offseason. The roster has obvious needs, particularly a big bat and some pitching depth. They’re clearly planning to rely on internal improvements rather than trades or free agency.
Fortunately, Cleveland does have quite a few prospects who could be in line for big roles in 2026. The farm system has produced a number of intriguing talents that are ready to go, and seven of them recently landed on a notable top-100 list. ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel recently released his updated top-100 prospect list heading into the 2026 season, and the Guardians are all over it.
Cleveland has seven prospects on the list, and we could even see a few of them early in the season, particularly Chase DeLauter, who could start on Opening Day.
“Cleveland #Guardians head into the 2026 season with seven players on the @espn Kiley McDaniel’s top 100 list! #23 – Travis Bazzana (2B), #33 – Ralphy Velazquez (1B), #43 – Chase DeLauter (OF), #45 – Parker Messick (LHP), #68 – Khal Stephen (RHP), #71 – Braylon Doughty (RHP), #80 – Angel Genao (SS),” Guardians Prospective posted on X.

This list doesn’t even include C.J. Kayfus and George Valera, who are both also projected to have big roles on the 2026 team. The two of them and DeLauter could start on Opening Day, and hopefully they can do their part in making sure Cleveland doesn’t finish with a .226 team batting average again.
Messick should crack the Opening Day rotation after his impressive showing down the stretch last year, but as for the rest of the prospects on this list, fans might have to wait at least a year or two for most of them to surface. Top prospect Travis Bazzana could be the lone exception, and if he gets off to a hot start in the minors, he could force his way into the Guardians lineup early in the year as well.
It’s fair to be frustrated at the lack of aggression from the Guardians this offseason, but there is clearly a lot of high-end talent set to surface in this lineup over the next few years.
