The Cleveland Guardians shattered the quiet of their offseason by making a big announcement regarding their best player. Jose Ramirez has reportedly signed a massive contract extension that should keep him with the Guardians for the remainder of his career.
It is outstanding news for a fan base that has seen multiple players leave the organization because of financial contract concerns. Now, they know their beloved superstar will not join that list.
According to Hector Gomez, Ramirez is getting a seven-year extension worth $175 million that runs through the 2032 season, when the All-Star third baseman will turn 40 years old.
“BREAKING NEWS: Jose Ramirez is a Guardian for the long haul. The third baseman star has signed a new deal: 7-year, $175 million extension through the 2032 season. In April, 2022, Ramirez and the Guardians agreed on a five-year, $124M contract extension,” Gomez wrote.

This also eases some major concerns after Ramirez expressed displeasure about his previous contract extension. He said he took a hometown discount in order to allow the Guardians to spend more on talent to surround him, but that the organization did not hold up its end of that bargain.
This offseason, Cleveland has been criticized for not taking steps to improve the lineup. However, while this news does not represent an addition, it should ease those worries, at least for the time being.
Now, the Guardians face another decision with All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan, who has been seeking an extension of his own for at least the past year. Though he is under club control through next season, he may be the one who moves on without getting a new deal.
Ramirez is one of the best players in the game today and was recently ranked at No. 5 on MLB Network’s top 100 list. He is a seven-time All-Star and six-time Silver Slugger winner, and has finished in the top five in AL MVP voting six times. That includes last season, when he was third behind Cal Raleigh and two-time winner Aaron Judge.
Now, if Ramirez finally does win that coveted award, he is likely guaranteed to do so with the Guardians, and he also would be part of any championship they would win in the near future.
