The Cleveland Guardians have had a very quiet offseason, even by their standards. Despite calls for them to improve their offense, they have only made minor additions to their bullpen.
That could be because they have the utmost confidence in their prospects. Outfielders George Valera and Chase DeLauter, and second baseman Travis Bazzana, who all have significant upside, are expected to be part of their Opening Day lineup.
Among them, DeLauter may have the highest ceiling, and analyst Thomas Nestico is projecting him to have an impactful rookie season with a wRC+ of 103.
“2026 Projected Rookie wRC+ Leaders: Chase DeLauter — 103,” Nestico posted on X.

The stat wRC+ measures overall offensive performance. It is adjusted for ballpark and league conditions, with 100 being league average.
DeLauter is ninth among rookie prospects in this ranking. The list is topped by Chicago White Sox first baseman Munetaka Murakami, who was a star player in Japan before signing this offseason.
He is followed by Baltimore Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Kazuma Okamoto, Detroit Tigers infielder Kevin McGonigle, Orioles outfielder Dylan Beavers, New York Mets outfielder Carson Benge, St. Louis Cardinals infielder JJ Wetherholt, Los Angeles Dodgers OF/1B Ryan Ward, and DeLauter.
It is worth noting that Valera and Bazzana are not listed in the top 10 despite their offensive potential. In addition, the top five players are all from the American League, which should provide some stiff competition for DeLauter in the potential race for Rookie of the Year.
He should be up for the challenge if he can avoid the injury concerns that have plagued him to date. Dealing with a preseason sports hernia and in-season wrist surgery, DeLauter played in just 34 games for Triple-A Columbus last season but produced a slash line of .278/.383/.476 with five home runs in 126 at-bats. He also had 22 walks against 23 strikeouts.
He made his MLB debut in the AL Wild Card series, becoming just the sixth player in history to arrive in the postseason, and he will look to further justify that confidence with a strong 2026 season.
