There are still a few weeks to go before spring training begins, but the Cleveland Guardians’ roster appears to be set heading into the 2026 season. As usual, the Guardians did not make a big splash acquiring players during the offseason, but the lineup could still have a new look.
There are several young prospects ready to take on bigger roles. That includes one highly touted player who is in line to make his MLB debut.
Analyst Joel Reuter recently predicted the Guardians’ 2026 Opening Day lineup, and it includes Travis Bazzana.
Projected Lineup
LF Steven Kwan
RF George Valera
3B Jose Ramirez
1B Kyle Manzardo
CF Chase DeLauter
2B Travis Bazzana
DH C.J. Kayfus
C Bo Naylor
SS Gabriel Arias
“Can top prospect Travis Bazzana force his way into the middle infield picture this spring? The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 draft reached Triple-A in his first full professional season, logging an .813 OPS with 31 extra-base hits in 84 games over three levels in 2025. If he stakes claim to the second base job, that would leave the light-hitting tandem of Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias to battle for playing time at shortstop,” Reuter wrote.
Bazzana could have arrived in the majors last season, but injuries delayed his progress. When he was on the field, he showed the offensive talent that has him considered among the top prospects in baseball.
In Reuter’s proposed lineup, Bazzana would join fellow prospects George Valera, C.J. Kayfus and Chase DeLauter, who each made their MLB debut in 2025. Kayfus and Valera were late additions who helped the Guardians rally to win the AL Central, while DeLauter was one of the rare players to make his initial appearance in a postseason game.
Notably, the lineup also includes Kwan, who may not be on the team when the season begins. Though under club control through the 2027 campaign, he is seeking a contract extension, and without one, he is viewed as one of the top trade targets in the game.
Even with their up-and-coming talent, having to find a new leadoff hitter would seriously hinder the Guardians’ attempt to win a third straight division title.
