The Cleveland Guardians have spent years trying to solve the same problem: where is the power going to come from in the lineup? It’s a question that seems to resurface every offseason, and it’s already shaping the conversation heading into 2026. While free agency options will always be discussed, one respected insider believes the answer may already be inside the organization.
According to Joe Noga, the Guardians are likely to lean on their elite young talent to address their long-standing power concerns rather than chasing it on the open market.
In other words, help could be coming sooner than many fans expect.
“For every question about where the lineup’s power is going to come from, there is Chase DeLauter’s regular-season debut, or Travis Bazzana a phone call away in Columbus,” Noga wrote.
DeLauter, when healthy, has shown the kind of power and patience that the Guardians have lacked in the outfield. His minor league production and approach at the plate suggest he could step into the lineup immediately and produce.
Bazzana represents another intriguing piece of the puzzle. The former top pick has quickly established himself as one of the most talented hitters in their system. His combination of bat speed, strength, and incredible contact gives him legitimate extra-base potential.
This approach also aligns with how the front office has operated for years. Rather than overpaying for power in free agency, the Guardians prefer to develop hitters internally and let them grow into their strength at the big-league level. It’s a strategy that has frustrated fans at times, but it has also produced a steady pipeline of controllable talent.
Of course, leaning on young players comes with risk. Prospects aren’t guarantees, and growing pains are inevitable. Still, the upside is undeniable. If DeLauter and Bazzana can translate their skills to the majors, the Guardians’ power problem could start solving itself in 2026.
Instead of asking where the power will come from, the better question might be how soon these young bats force their way into the everyday lineup.
