The Cleveland Guardians have the best third baseman in all of baseball, and it’s not particularly close. He might even be one of the greatest third basemen of all time.
Of course, we’re talking about Jose Ramirez. That’s an objective, facts-based, and numbers-based argument.
Ramirez is one of the most consistent players in all of baseball, up to the point where some people take him for granted. It’s not even surprising to watch him put up the numbers he puts up, even though there’s nothing normal about that. To put in context just how spectacular he was last season, Sarah Langs of MLB.com pointed out that he joined a very exclusive club of baseball legends in 2025:
“Another season, another outstanding performance from José Ramírez. 2025 was his second season with at least 30 home runs and 40 stolen bases. The only other players in MLB history with multiple such seasons are Bobby Bonds (four), Barry Bonds and Alfonso Soriano. Only Bobby Bonds and Ramírez did so in consecutive seasons,” Langs wrote.
You know you’re doing things well whenever you’re mentioned in the same sentence as the legendary Bobby Bonds. And the most impressive part of all of this is that Ramirez just keeps getting better with time.
Unfortunately, he has yet to get the monkey off his back and finally win AL MVP honors. That’s what happens when you play in the same era as Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. Even with Ohtani moving to the National League, the lack of national coverage and his team’s unimpressive season may have taken a toll on the voting.
Even so, Ramirez has never been the type of player who needs the bright lights and the pats on the back to be at his best. He’s a fierce competitor, and he might even go down as the best player in franchise history.
