The Cleveland Guardians have one of the most stacked farm systems. Stephen Vogt’s team will have plenty of talented players to choose from when they’re in need of help. While guys like Angel Genao or Travis Bazzana have drawn most of the attention – and rightfully so – even the not-so-known prospects have turned plenty of heads there.
With that in mind, MLB analysts Sam Dykstra and Jonathan Mayo tipped their hats to Tommy Hawke, who swiped 65 bags in the minors last season:
“Guardians: 65 stolen bases; Tommy Hawke (Not ranked in CLE Top 30),” MLB’s Sam Dykstra and Jonathan Mayo wrote. “Normally, we try to keep these to ranked prospects, but Hawke’s baserunning prowess deserves a spotlight on this list. The 2023 sixth-rounder out of Wake Forest played only 67 games this season (mostly at Single-A) but swiped 65 bags in 70 attempts in that time. Only nine Minor Leaguers had at least 65 steals in 2025; none of the other eight played fewer than 100 games.”
Of course, there’s much more that comes into play when making your way to the majors. Hawke still has plenty of hurdles to clear and work to do to even be on the team’s radar for a potential call-up, but this was impressive nonetheless.
Being able to get on base and put yourself in scoring position is always a massive perk, and with a team that has struggled to bring runners home for years now, Hawke could make himself quite valuable. A lot can go sideways for players trying to make a name for themselves and prove that they have what it takes to make it to the show.
The Guardians have often erred on the side of caution when it comes to their prospects, being patient with them, sometimes to a fault. That will most likely continue to be the case with their young outfielder prospect.
But if he continues to get on base and steal bases at this rate, he’s definitely going to make the team at one point.
