The Cleveland Guardians had one of the strongest bullpens in all of baseball last season. Now, one of their main figures will have to take a couple of days off to celebrate. As shown by Guardians Prospective on X, Hunter Gaddis has some bigger fish to fry right now.
He just got engaged:
“Congratulations to Cleveland Guardians RHP Hunter Gaddis on his engagement,” Guardians Prospective posted on X.
Gaddis had an instrumental role in the team’s success last season, and that should only happen again next season. If anything, his role might be even more crucial.
He alternated with Cade Smith as the team’s closer when Emmanuel Clase was hurt and then placed on paid administrative leave over his alleged involvement in a sports gambling scheme. Then, once Smith held onto the closer job for the remainder of the season, he was their primary setup.
The Guardians have always taken pride in having a strong bullpen. And, given their glaring offensive limitations, that might be their main recipe for success this season as well.
As such, Gaddis will be one of the most important contributors to this team. And as much as there’s always some bullpen volatility between years, there’s no reason to believe he’s not going to be as good – if not better – in the third year of the Stephen Vogt era. This team’s playoff run was one of the most impressive of all time.
Not only did they manage to beat the odds and come back from a 15.5-game deficit – the largest of all time – but they also managed to weather the storm and get back on their feet after losing two key players to one of the biggest scandals in recent baseball history.
