The Cleveland Guardians are always keeping an eye out for talent in South America and the Caribbean. Their farm system is the gift that just keeps on giving, and they’ve found plenty of success there in recent years.
That’s why it’s not much of a surprise to hear that they’re doubling down on their commitment to some of those prospects. As pointed out by Guardians Prospective on X, they just signed another high-end prospect. The Guardians signed Venezuelan southpaw Deiker Rojas, and the 19-year-old hurler is a native of Barcelona, Venezuela.
He will begin his pro career next season:

Of course, it will take a while before he actually enters the Guardians’ radar, if ever. The Guardians are absolutely stacked with talent in the minors, and he has plenty of steps to walk and hurdles to clear before getting some consideration.
Left-handed pitchers are always a prized commodity, and he’s not going to be the exception to that rule. Granted, that doesn’t mean he’ll ever get to play in the majors, let alone with the Guardians.
Countless things could go sideways when it comes to prospects. They first need to prove that they can stay healthy, hit the gym, bulk up, and get to work to withstand the wear and tear of playing in the majors, and they also need to be mature and show a strong work ethic. On top of that, they must be fortunate enough to be in a good situation.
Hopefully, that will be the case with Rojas.
