The Cleveland Guardians could use some offensive firepower on their roster. They struggled mightily to get much going at the plate last season, and while they managed to make the playoffs, it shouldn’t have been as difficult as it was.
The Guardians had the worst offense of all playoff teams. The fact that they made it that far was rather surprising.
With that in mind, they should look to add juice to the lineup this offseason. Considering that, MLB analyst Matt Vasgersian named the Guardians as a fit for All-Star infielder Jorge Polanco.
“I was just thinking Cleveland too. Second base, add some power, play shortstop or second base in Cleveland,” Vasgersian said.
Of course, that makes sense to a degree. While he never broke out as the superstar he was expected to be, Polanco, who is a free agent after playing last season for the Seattle Mariners, is a very good hitter who would instantly provide a boost and be one of the best offensive players on the team.
That being said, the Guardians are stacked with middle infielders as things stand now. Granted, they don’t have a hitter like Polanco, but they have a myriad of options available.
Top prospect Travis Bazzana is expected to take over at second base at some point in the 2026 season. Banking on an unproven rookie isn’t always wise, but with Daniel Schneemann, Brayan Rocchio, Angel Martinez, Gabriel Arias, and maybe even Juan Brito and Angel Genao also there, the Guardians might be better off adding players at other positions.
