With Ketel Marte reportedly on the trade block, the Cleveland Guardians have a rare opportunity to make a bold move. Marte isn’t just any second baseman; he’s in his prime, a switch-hitter, and comes with a team-friendly contract, making him a standout option.
After Arizona’s disappointing season and their decision to sell at the trade deadline, Marte could easily become their next All-Star-level departure. Inside Cleveland, there’s growing chatter that the Guardians should really consider going all in to bring him aboard. Brady Hamilton made his case on X, capturing the sentiment among some fans and analysts.
“Ketel Marte would be the all-in move Guardians fans have been waiting for. Do whatever it takes to get it done,” Hamilton posted.

With their current offseason roster, Marte represents the kind of proven talent that could transform the team immediately. He’s a legitimate offensive force, posting a .283 average with a .376 on-base percentage, .517 slugging percentage, and a 0.893 OPS last season. He showed pop with 28 home runs and 28 doubles while striking out just 15 percent of the time, fitting the mold of hitters the Guardians have long coveted.
While Travis Bazzana is expected to make his MLB debut next season, he’s still a prospect and can’t yet be counted on to anchor the offense. Marte, in contrast, is a seasoned, All-Star caliber player whose production is guaranteed. Pairing him with Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan would instantly create one of the American League Central’s most formidable top threes.
The trade could be realistic too, thanks to a pre-existing relationship between the two organizations. Last offseason, the Diamondbacks acquired Josh Naylor from the Guardians in exchange for Slade Cecconi and a draft pick.
While Marte may attract attention from multiple teams, Guardians president Chris Antonetti would be smart to call Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen and gauge the price. If it’s feasible, bringing in a proven star like Marte could be a game-changing move for next season.
