After beating a myriad of candidates in the interview process, Stephen Vogt became the newest Cleveland Guardians manager.
He will be tasked with replacing a franchise legend, no less: Terry Francona, the all-time leader in wins by a manager in franchise history.
Vogt’s ascent to the position is somewhat surprising, mainly because he was an active player as recently as September 2022.
However, he was always viewed as a brilliant baseball man and a very good communicator, fundamental skills for the gig.
It’s easy to forget that he was an active player just a couple of years ago, though.
In an Oakland Athletics uniform, he became famous for hitting a home run in his final plate appearance.

Vogt connected with a long drive toward deep right field, pulling the ball in the seventh inning of a game against the Los Angeles Angels.
As the ball disappeared into the bright sun, Vogt started rounding the bases and he couldn’t contain the happiness in his body.
Vogt retired shortly after that long home run, and worked as the bullpen and quality control coach for the Seattle Mariners in the 2023 campaign.
After hearing about the Guardians opening, he knew he had to make himself available.
It worked, and now, he is about to embark in one of the most exciting projects of his life.
