The Cleveland Guardians enter the offseason with several roster holes to fill after a disappointing 2025 campaign. Their biggest concern is the outfield, which remains the most urgent area in need of upgrades.
A new option recently hit the market when the Texas Rangers chose not to tender Adolis García. The former postseason hero played a key role in Texas’ 2023 World Series run, but his performance has dipped in recent seasons.
That move sparked debate among Guardians fans about whether García could be a short-term solution. But not everyone is convinced. Many analysts have questioned whether he fits what Cleveland needs right now.
On a recent episode of Locked On Guardians, analyst Justin Lada voiced his concerns, saying the team should look elsewhere and prioritize more reliable options instead.
“Adolis Garcia is not really a risk. It’s the same dumpster-diving that they’ve done that everyone hates. Adolis Garcia is still dumper-diving, no matter what the money says. This guy was let go from the Rangers for a reason, who had one of the worst offenses in baseball last year, not named Cleveland. I think Cleveland should be aiming for better options. I don’t see that as the first place I’d be spending money to upgrade my outfield, because there’s a very good chance it’s not going to be an upgrade at all,” Lada said.
Adding García would force difficult roster decisions in Cleveland’s already crowded outfield.
His power production has declined significantly from his career peak of 30 home runs, raising concerns about relying on a mid-30s player to recapture past form. García’s conditioning history adds another layer of concern, and his batting average has fallen below league average in consecutive seasons.
These factors make him an unreliable option as a full-time starter moving forward. The Guardians may reconsider García if superior options remain unavailable into late January.
A low-cost deal in the five-to-six-million range could become financially feasible by then. For now, however, the organization appears reluctant to settle for available bargains in addressing their outfield depth.
