The Cleveland Guardians have always taken pride in their farm system. Judging by the prospects they have right now, that’s not likely to change any time soon.
Travis Bazzana, Chase DeLauter and George Valera usually get most of the praise, and rightfully so. Nevertheless, young Guardians slugger Ralphy Velazquez could emerge as a 2026 breakout prospect.
“There is so much talent in the Guardians org, and I don’t think Ralphy is mentioned enough. He has plenty of pull-side power with above-average QoC and improved his Con% by 3.8% this season. 20+ HR, 20+ 2B, and a K% below 20% as a 20 YO,” Running From The OPS wrote on X.

Velazquez often goes overlooked, maybe because of his age. It doesn’t sound likely that the Guardians will call him up to the majors at 20 years old.
Also, he’s potentially limited to playing first base, although some believe he has some defensive potential in the outfield. The Guardians could use some help at both positions, but they may want to wait and see how he continues his development.
Velazquez got off to a slow start to the season in the minors before excelling in the final stretch. He needs to prove that he can deliver that type of performance consistently before being on the MLB radar. Even so, the potential is clearly there, so he could be a candidate to get the nod at some point in the second half of the campaign.
The Guardians are never going to spend on free agents, and they will always favor player development. That will leave the door open for their young slugger to make his way to Cleveland at some point in the next couple of years.
