The Cleveland Guardians have always taken pride in their development system. The Guardians have one of the most proficient farms in all of baseball, and they have much more talent in their ranks than the average MLB team.
Notably, that’s the best way to compete with the bigger spenders in the game. They hang their hat on finding and developing elite talent, while other teams just buy their stars. So far, it’s safe to say their approach has worked.
With that in mind, MLB analyst Joel Reuter has some high hopes for one of their prospects. In his latest column for Bleacher Report, Reuter argued that the Guardians could have yet another star in the middle of the infield pretty soon: Angel Genao.
“The Guardians have shown a knack for developing middle infield talent, and Angel Genao is shaping up to be their latest success story. He batted .259/.323/.359 with 23 extra-base hits in 77 games at Double-A in his age-21 season, and he stands out for his 60-grade hit tool and polished defensive game,” Reuter wrote.
The Guardians are more than set in the middle of the infield for years to come. They might even have to trade one of either Gabriel Arias or Brayan Rocchio, and they would still have Angel Gimenez, Juan Brito, Daniel Schneemann, and former No. 1 pick Travis Bazzana.
That being said, they should still have big plans for Genao. He’s as talented as they come, and he could be one of this team’s offensive anchors for years to come.
He still has plenty of hurdles to clear, and he will most likely begin the year at Double-A. But if he continues to play that way, it shouldn’t be long before he makes his way to Triple-A Columbus. Who knows? He might even make his MLB debut next season.
