The Cleveland Guardians may not play in the biggest market or have the most prominent names in the game. However, more often than not over the past decade, they’ve been a contender.
In fact, they have been one of the most consistent teams in baseball, and stats show how impressive the Guardians have been since 2013.
According to Codify, the Guardians have won the third-most games in MLB since then. They have 1,101 victories, trailing only the New York Yankees (1,128) and Los Angeles Dodgers (1,222).

That’s not bad for a team that has never spent as much money as the others, especially if you consider that the Dodgers are the only team in the top three with a World Series win during that span. The Guardians are never going to try to keep up with that powerhouse in player salaries.
Due to the lack of an MLB salary cap, the Dodgers can simply outspend every other team and get the most prominent players, such as Shohei Ohtani. That has frustrated fans at times, as the Guardians don’t even seem to try to keep their own stars when they get too expensive.
Now, it seems like they have found a special manager in Stephen Vogt. He’s led the team to back-to-back AL Central titles and playoff berths, and he should be getting a contract extension soon.
Hopefully, the Guardians will continue to challenge the status quo, beat the odds, and stay competitive. More than that, maybe they’ll finally get over the hump and win the World Series for the first time since 1948.
