Carlos Hernández has traveled an inconsistent path through professional baseball despite showing flashes of high-level ability. The right-handed pitcher once generated attention for his velocity and strikeout potential, but struggles with command and opportunities have prevented him from establishing a stable role at the major league level.
After appearing in five games with the Cleveland Guardians during the 2025 season, Hernández has agreed to return on a minor league deal. The Guardians announced the move through their official channels.
“Guardians have re-signed free agent RHP Carlos Hernández to a Minor League contract for the 2026 season with an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp,” per GuardsInsider.

Hernández pitched for three organizations last season, starting with the Detroit Tigers and Philadelphia Phillies before joining Cleveland.
He logged 43.2 innings in the majors with a 6.23 ERA and 39 strikeouts. His minor league time came with the Columbus Clippers, where he posted a 4.70 ERA across 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts.
The raw tools remain present for Hernández to carve out a bullpen role. His fastball velocity still draws interest, and he has shown the ability to miss bats when locating properly. Consistency and command continue to be his primary obstacles.
Four of his five appearances with Cleveland came in ninth-inning situations with the team trailing, and all resulted in losses. His fastball generated a .315 opponent batting average when left over the plate.
Better pitch placement and improved command could transform Hernández into a more dependable high-velocity option heading into next season.
