Many of the Cleveland Guardians’ hopes for their infield rest on Brayan Rocchio’s shoulders.
His MLB debut this season wasn’t overly productive, but his minor league performance, defensive chops, and current performance in the Venezuelan winter league (Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional) are enough to give Guardians fans permission to dream and fantasize about a quality long-term piece.
Rocchio is currently white-hot in Venezuela, playing for Tiburones de La Guaira.
“#Guardians 22yr old switch hitting INF prospect Brayan Rocchio with a 2-run opposite field base hit tonight in the @LVBP_Oficial playoffs that helped his team @tiburones_net tie the game up at 7-to-7 in the 6th inning. Rocchio would finish the game going (2-4 2RBI) at the plate,” Guardians Prospective tweeted.

There isn’t a whole lot of home run power in Rocchio’s hitting profile, but he can hit line drives all over the field and has potential to hit for a nice batting average due to his contact skills.
He uses all fields and can catch up with high-end velocity.
In Venezuela, he is hitting an impressive .377/.457/.541 with a home run, 13 runs scored, eight RBI, and a .998 OPS.
He had a meager .247/.279/.321 in 23 MLB games, but delivered a much stronger .280/.367/.421 line with seven homers and 25 stolen bases in Triple-A.
He has the tools to put it all together in MLB as soon as 2024, and his defensive excellence and versatility should help him secure playing time all around the infield.
He remains a big part of the Guardians’ future, but will need to start hitting eventually.
