The Cleveland Guardians reinforced their reputation as one of baseball’s elite defensive teams when Steven Kwan received the 2025 Fielding Bible Award for left field.
The honor marks another milestone for an organization that has built its identity around exceptional glove work and smart positioning across the diamond.
Cleveland’s defensive excellence has been consistent, with players earning recognition year after year for their contributions to that part of the game.
“Guardians players have won seven Fielding Bible Awards in the last four years. That’s the most of any team in that span. This year Kwan was the only winner from a Cleveland team that overcame a 15-1/2 game deficit to win its second straight AL Central title,” Paul Hoynes wrote.
The Fiedling Bible Awards take into account statistical analysis and the eye test by its panel of voters.
Kwan has earned three awards in his career, in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
Infielder Andres Gimenez collected two awards in 2022 and 2024, while third baseman Jose Ramírez and outfielder Myles Straw each earned one in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The Guardians’ system has created an environment where defense remains the foundation regardless of offensive struggles.
This season, they ranked near the top in outfield assists while benefiting from elite pitch framing by catchers Bo Naylor and Austin Hedges.
That approach has created a model that continues producing successful on-field results season after season.
After rallying to win the division this season, the Guardians were eliminated by the Detroit Tigers in the AL Wild Card round, one season after advancing to the ALCS.
