The Cleveland Guardians have made their fair share of questionable decisions over the years.
Of course, given that the team has managed to stay competitive without spending much money, it’s hard to argue with their vision.
Nevertheless, after watching multiple former Guardians make their way to the World Series, fans can’t help but wonder how things would’ve gone if they had stayed with Cleveland.
That’s why, after the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners to win the American League pennant, analyst Grant Puskar took to social media to raise that question.
“Just like that, Shane Bieber, Andres Gimenez, Ernie Clement and Myles Straw are World Series bound. Where would the Guardians be today if they kept all four?” Puskar wrote on X.

Where would the #Guardians be today if they kept all four?

Some of those moves were easy to justify at the time, although they were all risky.
But it’s not like the Guardians have been bottom-feeders without them.
Cleveland is in a position to compete for years to come, given the young roster it’s put together.
The Guardians know they can’t compete with the bigger markets as far as payroll, so they don’t dare to try.
That might not be the best way to run a team, and fans have every right to feel frustrated and even jealous when they watch other teams spend to remain perennial contenders.
Yet, it has worked for most of Cleveland’s history.
Hopefully, the front office will make the necessary complementary moves to help the team reach the next level, and, more importantly, won’t part with any veteran stars for financial reasons.
