Stephen Vogt took over as manager of the Cleveland Guardians last season, and he guided them all the way to the ALCS.
Things weren’t as smooth this season, but that only made his work more impressive.
That’s why, after getting back to the playoffs with a historic AL Central title, it’s not a surprise to see that other MLB teams could be interested in his services.
The Guardians signed Vogt to a three-year contract even though he didn’t have any previous experience as a manager.
The former MLB catcher is about to enter the final year of that deal, and there have already been rumblings about the Guardians getting to work on an extension.
They reportedly want to keep him for the long run, and after what he did this season, that’s definitely the right call.
The Guardians made the playoffs despite having little firepower at the plate, and they wound up winning the division after trailing by as many as 15.5 games at one point, which is something that had never been done before.
Vogt weathered the storm, keeping the team grounded and focused after winning only nine games in June.
He didn’t panic when pitchers Luis L. Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase were placed on administrative leave over an alleged sports gambling scheme.
In just two seasons, Vogt has shown that he’s the right guy for Cleveland.
