The Cleveland Guardians hoped to have one of their rookies make the roster at some point in the season.
However, it wasn’t Chase DeLauter.
Instead, C.J. Kayfus made the most of his opportunities with the Triple-A Columbus Clippers.
He proved to be more than ready, and he made a strong impact as soon as he was called up.
As pointed out by Sleeper Guardians on X, the first-year 1B/OF was pretty solid in his brief stint in the majors.
He finished the campaign with a .220 average on 123 at-bats.
He also had a .707 OPS with 19 RBI and four home runs.

All things considered, Kayfus should be a strong candidate to make the roster right out of the gate next season.
His positional versatility gives Stephen Vogt another option at first base and in both corners of the outfield, and the team needed some help at both positions this season.
He gave the offense a big boost at a time of need, being perhaps the most crucial reinforcement they had all year after not bringing in any help at the trade deadline.
Of course, he’s by no means a finished product, and he needs to get better in terms of not chasing so many pitches and staying ahead in the count.
Toning down on the strikeouts will certainly help his case.
The Guardians have a bright future and plenty of young studs who should make an immediate impact next season, and with DeLauter and George Valera, they will have plenty of options.
