The moment Cleveland Guardians fans were waiting for is finally here.
Chase DeLauter, the team’s No. 2-ranked prospect behind only Travis Bazzana, is set to make his MLB debut, and the outfielder has decided on his jersey number.
According to insider Zack Meisel, DeLauter will wear No. 34, which was last worn by relief pitcher Paul Sewald, who was traded during this season.
Per @ZackMeisel, if OF Chase DeLauter makes the playoff roster tomorrow, he will wear number 34, last worn by RHP Paul Sewald earlier this year.#GuardsBall @NumbersMLB

All signs pointed to DeLauter’s MLB debut being pushed to next season.
While he was always a strong candidate to get promoted this year, multiple injuries kept him off the field for a big chunk of the season, and he hasn’t played since July after having surgery on his wrist.
Notably, this postseason promotion speaks volumes about his talent and the confidence the organization has in him.
Though there’s always an adjustment period for a young player arriving in the majors, DeLauter is skilled, talented, and physically gifted enough that he should do just fine.
He has proven to be a very good hitter, and he has the tools to be a future All-Star.
The Guardians might take things slowly with him right away, but if he proves to be ready, he might become an everyday starter in their postseason run.
His talent is undeniable, but injuries have raised major concerns about his durability.
Hopefully, he will stay healthy and show why the organization is so high on him.
