The Cleveland Guardians needed a strong outing from one of their stars.
With Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal taking the mound for the visitors, the Guardians were big underdogs ahead of the first pitch.
Then, Gavin Williams rose to the occasion and gave Stephen Vogt’s team just what they needed.
He chose the perfect time to tie his career-best in strikeouts.
The Guardians’ hurler was out there for six full frames, striking out 12 hitters.
He gave up four hits, two walks, and two earned runs.

The Guardians were down 2-0 at one point, and with Williams’ pitch count going up, it seemed like his strong outing wasn’t going to be enough for them to get the job done.
Then, the team rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to finally give the hurler the run support he needed.
With the win, the Guardians have now tied A.J. Hinch’s team at 85 wins and 72 losses.
They hold the tiebreaker, so they’re now leading the AL Central division.
As such, they need to keep pushing and take care of business in the next two games of the series.
Now, Stephen Vogt will turn to Tanner Bibee to keep the momentum going, with the Tigers giving the ball to Jack Flaherty.
It won’t be easy, but the Guardians have looked like the best team in all of baseball over the past couple of weeks.
They’re close to the finish line, and they need everybody to put in this type of effort to get through.
