The Cleveland Guardians need to finish the season strong to make the playoffs.
Perhaps the best way to do that will be to start games on a high note.
Fortunately, they have one of the hottest players in the game in that regard.
As pointed out by insider Joe Noga, Jose Ramirez has been on a tear in the first inning throughout the season.
“He has 11 home runs in the first inning this season,” Noga said. “Only Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge have more first-inning home runs this year. So that’s pretty good company there. And he has 24 RBIs in the first inning this year. The only one who has more in the majors in the first inning is Judge.”
Ramirez is one of the few players with at least 65 combined home runs and stolen bases this season.
A perennial AL MVP candidate and arguably the best third baseman in the game, he continues to put up big numbers.
Not many players keep getting better and add more to their game as they age, but Ramirez isn’t like most players.
The Guardians will continue to rely on him, and with his hot bat and ability on the bases, he will always be an offensive threat for a team that has been lacking firepower at times.
He needs some help from his teammates, but if Ramirez keeps this up, the Guardians will have a chance to do something special.
