The Cleveland Guardians were in desperate need of some momentum, and they found someone to give them that.
Parker Messick has looked like a legitimate star in the early stages of his MLB career, and he could be the missing piece for their starting rotation.
The Guardians prospect joined a very exclusive club in his second start.
“Parker Messick is the second pitcher in Major League Baseball history to begin their career with two consecutive outings of 6+ strikeouts, 1 or 0 runs allowed & 1 or 0 walks allowed. He joins Joe Musgrove, who did it in 2016,” Luke Potosky wrote on X.

Messick tossed seven scoreless innings to help Cleveland end a six-game losing streak.
He held the Tampa Bay Rays to four hits (three singles), striking out six and not issuing a walk.
Through two starts, he holds an 0.66 ERA in 13.2 innings with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
Against the Rays, he tossed 66 strikes in 98 pitches, the most pitches he’s thrown all season at any level.
Messick looks ready for the moment, and the bright lights of a playoff chase clearly don’t faze him.
He stays ahead in the count and keeps opposing hitters off-balance with a combination of a four-seam fastball, sinker, curveball and slider, attacking the strike zone and not giving up hard contact.
He could’ve been 2-0, but the Guardians blew a lead in his MLB debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
While it’s still too early to tell how things will turn out for him, this is a strong start to a promising career.
