The Cleveland Guardians didn’t make a move to add more firepower at the trade deadline.
Instead, they chose to call up one of their most promising players.
And so far, C.J. Kayfus has been as good as advertised.
As shown by Brady Hamilton on X, the 1B/OF prospect just logged his first career triple.

He blasted one to the right field in the second inning of a 3-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Kayfus hit the ground running by recording a groundout RBI on his very first plate appearance.
He had to wait for a little longer before finally getting his first career home run.
Now, he’s up to a .239 average with a couple of homers, 11 hits, eight runs scored, seven RBI, and a couple of stolen bases.
He also has a .300 OBP.
Of course, banking on a first-year player like Kayfus to be the team’s savior wasn’t fair, but so far, he’s done a solid job of keeping their postseason hopes alive.
Most people expected Chase DeLauter to be the first player to get the nod from Triple-A Columbus and make the roster this season, but injuries derailed his once-promising campaign.
In the meantime, Kayfus continued to put his head down, got to work, and turned plenty of heads with his consistent offense.
While not the most experienced outfielder, his ability to cover both corners gives this team some much-needed offensive production there.
There will be some speed bumps along the way, but the early results of this experiment are fairly encouraging.
