The Cleveland Guardians may have found another star.
C.J. Kayfus has adapted to the majors just fine, and he’s only getting started.
He had another strong outing in the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks, helping the team get a 3-1 win.
Asked about his success at the plate, the young first baseman/outfielder had an interesting response.
“My big thing is just staying as simple as possible. I think that’s my mindset ever since I started playing baseball. Hitting is the most complicated thing to do in the world. Trying to make it as simple as possible, make it easy as possible,” Kayfus said.

Kayfus hit his second MLB home run and scored another run to help secure the victory.
He had been a little cold after his red-hot start, going just 2-for-17 (.118) in six home games last week, striking out six times with one RBI and two stolen bases.
He’s now slashing .239/.300/.435 with seven RBIs and eight runs scored in 50 plate appearances.
On the downside, he’s struck out 15 times while drawing just three walks, so he has work on his plate discipline.
The talent is there, and he has been a much-needed boost to a lineup that craved a bit of a shakeup.
While there will be some growing pains and a bit of a learning curve, he’s doing a great job of making adjustments on a daily basis.
